The Sturtos Fishing Report - 8/02/2009
As we enter August, the water conditions and fishing action continue to hold up nicely. At this time of the season as the water and air temperatures during the day are getting pretty warm in addition to lower water conditions we tend to see the best fishing times changing to mornings and evenings with the best fishing coming right around dusk. The later you can stay out and play, the better.
On Silver Creek mornings will also be prime time. Trico action continues, and for this, you will want to get a pretty early start. When the mayfly activity slows in the mid morning look for the breeze to come up and switch over to hoppers and other terrestrials. Late evening has been great on the creek with pmd's and caddis.
On the Big Wood the absolute best time of the day will be late evening, and by late, I mean right into dark, (bring a headlamp). Parachute mayfly and caddis patterns sizes 14-18 will be the call. With all this feeding at night, morning activity has been a bit quiet. By late morning the fish will be doing some feeding on mayfly patterns again. The hopper dropper combination is always a favorite and a good way to cover lots of water in non-prime feeding times.
All-in-all it's a great time to get out on the water and do some fishing, so get to it!
